Recently, a client and soon-to-be colleague / healers academy initiate, Alex Bynum, organized a large group healing meditation event at Karma Yoga Studio on Newbury St in Boston, just a few blocks from the site of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing last year. We did the meditation on a Saturday, two days before the 2014 Boston Marathon, and the intention was to bring healing right to the heart of the Marathon and the consciousness of everyone surrounding it -- for studies have shown that just a tiny percentage of a population meditating produces profound reduction in crime rates in major cities. We had about 30 students attend, and we did an Ensofic Ray Group Healing Meditation for an hour.
Here's what people said about it: "As a participant in the 2013 Boston Marathon who was stopped on Boylston Street by the blast and flame and smoke from the second explosion, and as a 2014 participant who on race weekend was re-living last year's trauma, the Boston Strong Meditation turned out to be an intervention of a blessed and sacred sort. This healing, centering, empowering encounter with the power of loving intention created a space for me to enjoy race day, to love its full experience, and to cross the finish line with a sense of release from ache and burden. Alex Bynum, the Karma Yoga space, and Jordan Bain combined created an experience where the energies of us in attendance gathered and grew into something other-worldly - something that felt ethereal - something that breathed peace. I think of that little more than an hour at Karma Yoga as the most fruitful of the many, many hours I spent training for Boston. It was simply amazing." -Bill Comer- "The Boston strong meditation was one of the most beautiful and powerful experiences of my life. Driving into the city always stresses me out, with all the traffic and people- Boston was especially crazy that day because everyone was riled up about the marathon. Walking up to karma yoga, my energy was very unbalanced, but the moment I walked into the studio, I felt at peace and at home. The community of healers that Alex brought together was full of love and peace. Jordan's meditation allowed each and every one of us to heal our own fear and worries to effectively help the city of Boston heal. Coming out of meditation, my energy had shifted significantly. I was able to walk out onto Newbury street as a beacon of hope and light. I truly believe that the meditation helped Boston heal. Thank you Alex and Jordan! You're amazing!!" -Kayla Martignetti- "I am someone who struggles with having anxiety and depression and a huge part of my struggle comes from a having a mind in turmoil. It was amazing to come together and focus on something positive in response to last years marathon tragedy and it also helped me immensely on an individual level. I felt connected with other Bostonians in our focus on peace and healing and I also felt safe and calm within my own mind and body. I don't meditate often but now feel a new resolve to make it part of my daily routine." -Meg Perry- The shift of energy around the whole area was felt by everyone attending, and it felt like we released a portion of the tension and fear and reactivity that had been built up around the Boston area as a result of the bombing last year. When these traumas are unresolved, they get repressed in the collective and manifest "sideways", creating other forms of negativity and become self-perpetuating. This meditation was an amazing gift and I am so grateful to everyone who participated and helped open the energies for Boston to heal and release this trauma. If you'd like to experience this kind of meditation and group healing for yourself, we have one almost every Wednesday night at our office in Newton, and occasionally at other centers and yoga studios around the Boston area.
